The City of Powell River: Discovering a New Place

Surrounded by beautiful waters and a variety of magnificent islands, Powell River is located west of Sunshine Coast and is accessible by ferry from Earls Cove, located within Sunshine Coast and also from Victoria. So, I went to the small city of Powell River recently with my family and I had a great time. I can say that this was also a short and nice getaway like our Victoria trip, but it was also the only place we went to on a vacation in the summer. In this blog, I’m going to take you through my experience and thoughts on my trip to Powell River.

To get to Powell River from the mainland, you need to take two ferries at the least. The first one from West Vancouver to Langdale (Sunshine Coast) and then drive up to Earls Cove to take a ferry from there to Powell River. There is a second way to get there. You can take a ferry from Victoria which will take much longer than the ferry from Earls Cove to Powell River. We took the ferry from Sunshine Coast. Anyways, we took an early morning ferry from West Vancouver to get to Sunshine Coast and arrived there at about 10 am. This way we were able to spend some time on Sunshine Coast. We had breakfast at Gibsons Landing and roamed around the small waterfront and marina. We stopped at different places and parks on the way to Earls Cove. It takes about an hour and a half to get from one ferry terminal to the other. This is why it is best to take the morning ferry from Horseshoe Bay terminal (West Vancouver). Anyways, we reached Earls Cove where we took the 3:15 pm ferry to Saltery Bay terminal (Powell River) and went straight to our hotel, Garden Beach Resort and Marina, which is oceanfront and is actually the best hotel in Powell River since it is the only hotel in Powell River. We stayed at Powell River for two nights.

We saw many small places in Powell River such as the small waterfront of West View from where the ferry to Victoria docked and the long sea walk that was filled with a lot of locals and where everyone who walked by was saying ‘Hi!’ to us. We went to the Inland Lake Provincial park which also had a campsite. To get to this park it did take quite awhile since it was deep in the wooded area and also there was gravel roads the entire way that made the car go slower. The lake was really nice and peaceful. The water was clean and it is a nice place to go kayaking or canoeing. I would suggest going there if you are going camping and not if you are going for a day picnic because there isn’t any place to sit down and relax. One historic thing I saw were the Hulks. They are large heavy concrete ships that were used as war ships in World War II and now are the largest breakwater in the world. I found the 10 concrete ships very cool and also kind of creepy and haunted. I think Powell River has more small places that are right in the city and less big places that are a bit far away.

I would suggest keeping your trip to Powell River for two nights at least because more than that could be too long for such a small town. Also, my hotel recommendations for which hotel to stay in would be Garden Beach Resort and Marina since it has a great view from the room balconies and also it is a three to five minutes drive from the City Centre where you can do some shopping and also get some coffee and a snack from Tim Hortons.

Overall, I think my trip to Powell River was wonderful and I definitely would say that everyone should visit Powell River and see this spectacular small town that offers so much to see.

I’m feeling some Moxie

All my life I have been looking at people trying to be perfect and more than the average person and I feel like all this perfection is getting to me. But, what I really care about is how people are just ruining their lives trying to be accurate and logical and since they are always trying to be that way, I start feeling the urge as well and then I start ruining my life. Yeah, you should be logical and should be good at everything, but your life only runs on common sense. Get over it.

I had this friend at school and she was all about perfection even though she didn’t admit it really. She was always trying to be better than anyone, the way I saw it, and she seemed to be a pretty positive person, but really wasn’t. I think her perfection didn’t get her attitude. So, I always saw her just trying to make her work and assignments, well, beautiful and correct. The definition of moxie is “force of character, determination, or nerve” (Google) and in my friend’s case, she definitely always had the force of nerve to be perfect. Maybe she had determination to be better or it was one of her characteristics. I really don’t know. Like I mentioned before, people are ruining their lives trying to be not themselves and as a friend, I think my friend was ruining her life, but was also ruining mine because I was starting to feel all her moxie and I think I had started to act like her, as well.

I need to admit that I have quite a lot of force of nerve of my own like how my beddings should not have a single wrinkle and how all the stuff in my closet should be in its own place and if anyone moves anything, well then, my urge acts up. But, I completely hate it when I get the overpowering feeling of that urge of accomplishing excellence. This is because I want to enjoy my life. If you spend your entire time just letting yourself feel the urge to be perfect, well then, you really are done in life. You can’t achieve anything then and you realize that the idea of being perfect doesn’t even exist.

My family and I sometimes are like, “Oh. We should be more perfect.” I would like to say we can never be perfect. We can’t even reach someone’s house less than an hour late and 90% of our plans fail or end up getting cancelled. You can say we have bad luck or no time punctuality, but really, it’s us enjoying our lives and definitely not trying to achieve anything.

There are many people in my life who had or have the problem of moxie and there were also people I thought who were perfect, but were just better than me at things. I do feel sorry for all of those people in the world who have moxie and also that friend of mine. Really all they are doing is ruining their lives and not realizing the most basic truth of all times. That no one is perfect or can be perfect which means that what they are trying to achieve is entirely impossible. Life runs on common sense, not on the accomplishment of excellence or perfection. If I could say, I would tell all those people who are trying to achieve perfection, “Stop being so bias. Think from the other side. Maybe you need to be imperfect so that you can be happy and be good at things in life. Having that much favoritism will get you nowhere.”

The point of all of this is that save yourself. Or the moxie feeling will get to you. I’m warning you because I have felt some moxie. And it almost got to me. If you feel like you aren’t able to be perfect, it doesn’t mean that you have horribly bad luck. You’re just enjoying your life.

To my ma…….

To all the mother’s in the world who work hard everyday to make their children lives better and to build up their future, Happy Mother’s Day!

Here is a poem I wrote for my mom on Mother’s Day last year:

Your smile, Your laughter. Your presence, Is all I need

Your food, Your hard work, Your determination, Is how I have survived.

Your courage, Your words. Your strength, Is how I build up.

Everyday I look up, To hear you tell me. That no one is better or stronger, Than me.

Your boldness, Keeps me straight. Your gentleness, Keeps me calm.

These past years, You made me, Helped me walked, Like a little kid building with blocks; a new creation.

Every single part of me, Is made of you. Your silliness to your anger, You gentleness to your toughness.

Your knowledge, Your trust. Your beliefs, Keep me on going.

Your support, During ups and downs. Your understanding, When helping me stand on my own feet.

Your smile, Telling me everything will be fine. While your strong brave words, Telling me to fight for myself.

If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t know. Or understand the world, Or even myself.

The words are endless, Forever to be said. You’re the best, I’m sure you know that.

Your smile, Your laughter. Your presence, Is all I need.

Like humans can’t live without water, I can’t live without you. Mom, it’s your time, So, Happy Mother’s Day!

(Please don’t mind the format; I couldn’t format the poem into a format of a poem since WordPress does not let you do that.) Thank you.

To Gain Peace

To gain peace, we need to achieve a lot and I believe that our entire world is doing just that. But, only in our own different ways. Let’s talk more.

Okay. Let’s look at our world. What do we see? Do you notice anything in the news? All the headlines, don’t they all seem the same? Conveying the same message? Let me tell you that the answer to the last question is yes, they all are conveying the same message and the message is “We want something, but most of all peace.” All around the world, people both good and bad, are fighting for their own peace and freedom. Some are fighting for peace in a peaceful way. But, majority of them are fighting with violence, war, terror, and threat. If you want peace, you need to get in a peaceful way. By fighting in such a violent way, no one in this world will ever gain peace or freedom. You’ll get control and power, but only by threatening lives of so many people and gaining control in such a horrible way. We can prevent this, however. We can stop all of this and gain peace in the correct way.

When you do something, you do it for a purpose. We humans are always trying to achieve something and each achievement comes with a purpose behind it. All the people in the world who are fighting for peace, I’m sure their intentions are to make the world a better place. We all want to. But if we stop and think for a while, are we actually gaining peace? Or are we just creating more chaos in the world? To gain peace, we need to work hard. There’s no shortcut to it. We need to face hardships and struggles. But, in the end we will get what we need. We always will. All those people trying to get peace for their people and country in such a violent manner, they’re just making it worse. If you want peace, you need to be peaceful first. Then, you can make everything else more peaceful.

Take a moment and sit down. Don’t do anything or think anything. Just clear your mind and take a deep breath. What am I doing? Is it a right thing to do? Because it’s best for you to understand yourself and your actions before you understand the world. This is the only way to gain the peace we all want. If we all want to live in harmony, we first need to be full of it. Only, then can we achieve our goals. I wanted to bring this up in my blog because I just felt like there was a need to bring up this topic as if it wasn’t discussed, something wouldn’t be right. Let’s all act carefully and most of all peacefully. And one day, maybe one day, we can all live in peace and harmony and be able to achieve anything without violence. Thank you.

Time for School!

The first few days of school are always tiring and pretty unorganized. You have literally gotten out of the habit and you feel lazy the entire time. You’re in that feeling of vacation 24/7 that you still want it to be no school all day. From waking up so early in the morning to writing each and every letter on your school assignment seems like you are dead.

But, if you look from the other side, school is the best thing ever!!! You get to meet your friends, you get to learn a whole lot of cool and new things, and you get to do so many activities. School may sound boring, but it is the place where you get the most powerful weapon you can ever have, knowledge. And you use your two most powerful weapons there, the pencil/pen and paper. It is true that the two most powerful weapons in the world are a pen and a piece of paper.

Now, school can be stressful and it can be sometimes pretty “complicated”. Sometimes people who are in your class can be really annoying or irritating. Their minds can be a little messed up and they might even have all the bad things cooking in their minds all the time. They can create drama and make it hard for people around them to be around them. When they do this, it is best to either stay away from them or just let them know that their thinking won’t affect you at all. I have had a lot of experience with these type of people. So, trust me, you don’t want to get involved in all that school drama. However, school isn’t just stressful because of drama, it can be hard because of the amount of work you get. Some people think that it is not that bad, but others seem to find it way too much. When you are in this situation, try not to freak out and stay calm. Organize all your tasks in your mind before you get started so that you know which task to do first and then so on.

Let’s talk about some organizing skills. When you are in a higher grade, you have so much homework from so many different types of subjects. You need to put all of your stuff into your backpack without folding or ripping it. One great way to keep your homework safe is to use a file folder. It is very neat and it is very easy to use. Timetables also get pretty congested. So, to keep track of what subjects are on what day, make sure to keep a copy of your timetable taped on your room’s wall, in your homework file folder, and in your laptop sleeve(if you use one frequently). There are so many other organizing ideas that can be useful for school. So, I won’t list all of them because we can go on and on with them.
In the end, all I want to say is that when school starts just enjoy it and think of all the benefits. Imagine yourself becoming powerful with knowledge that will help you overcome each and every problem in your life. Thank you!

Back to School

As you all know, school are about to open on Tuesday next week. So I thought of summarizing few of my thoughts on this event as I will also start a new school year. All I can say is that work hard and do your best. Everyday we go to school is a day we are working up to build our future.

Here are some inspirational quotes by Dr. Seuss for you to read before starting a fresh new school year:

“Think left & think right & think low and think high. Oh the things you can think high if only you try.”

“You have a brain in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.”

“Be who you are. And say what you feel. Because those who mind don’t matter. And those who matter don’t mind.”

“Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you!”

“You have to be odd to be number one.”

“You’re off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting so… be on your way!”

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot. Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”

“I like nonsense. It wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living. It’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope.”

I hope that all the students in the entire world have a great start to the new school year. Learn new things and explore everything! Thank you!
